West Vancouver for the location win

Set between the North Shore mountains and Burrard Inlet on the Pacific Ocean, living in West Van means residing in an unparalleled natural setting known for its small-town charm and cosmopolitan amenities. Ambleside & Dundarave are ideal West Vancouver locations

Two of the most popular and vibrant West Van communities are Ambleside and Dundarave.

The Ambleside neighbourhood is home to many local businesses and is the central hub of West Vancouver. You’ll find a variety of restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and services of all kinds dotted along and near the main Marine Drive thoroughfare. On Ambleside’s eastern edge is the tony Park Royal Shopping Centre, offering an open-air shopping experience and nearly 300 shops and services.

Dundarave sits to the west of Ambleside. This quaint, charming village is filled with local shops, cafés, restaurants and several sandy and rocky beach areas. Quieter than Ambleside, it has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Dundarave Park is a favourite place to watch the ocean waves or take in a stunning west coast sunset.

As West Vancouver is a waterfront community, the ocean plays an integral role in the local lifestyle. Ambleside Park is lined with sandy beaches that are popular for swimming and sailing. John Lawson Park is another favourite. Alongside the beaches are large green spaces, perfect for picnicking, playing sports, walking or relaxing. In the summertime, Ambleside’s music and cultural festivals create a lively and fun community atmosphere.

The seawall runs along the ocean from Lion’s Gate Bridge through Ambleside and Dundarave Village. This wide, flat, paved pathway offers spectacular views of Stanley Park, Lion’s Gate Bridge and the Vancouver skyline.

Shopping with a service focus

Both Ambleside and Dundarave offer many wonderful shops. Local independent clothing boutiques like Leslie Jane and Ami Boutique and national chains like La Maison Simons carry high-quality labels and provide a personalized shopping atmosphere with great service and friendly shopkeepers who love to get to know their customers.

The neighbourhoods are appointed with everything to meet your day-to-day needs, from medical and dental offices to spas, salons and fitness studios like Innovative Fitness, and from financial institutions to pharmacies. Florists, drugstores and the independent Simpson Home Hardware make it easy to do all your errands along Marine Drive.

Grocery shopping is also extremely convenient in West Vancouver. There are a number of small produce and specialty markets like Farm to Table Fine Foods plus larger grocery stores. IGA, Fresh Street Market, Loblaws City Market and Whole Foods, are all here. Most offer free delivery to local residents.

Dining for every taste

Global cuisine is plentiful in West Van, with gems that include high-end Japanese at Zen Sushi, delicious Italian at the cozy Carmelo’s  and a variety of Indian, Persian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Greek, French and more. There are also plenty of local casual dining favourites, such as The Anchor Eatery, The Bakehouse, Savary Island Pie Company. Well-known local chains, such as Earls, White Spot and Cactus Club Cafe, also have locations here.

One of West Vancouver’s most iconic spots is Beach House. Located in a heritage building at Dundarave Pier, Beach House boasts magnificent views of Burrard Inlet and beyond. The atmosphere, oceanfront location and seafood-centric West Coast cuisine make this a memorable spot for regulars and newcomers alike.

Community atmosphere

Ambleside and Dundarave are exceptionally warm and friendly areas to call home; community amenities within easy reach when you live in West Vancouver.

West Vancouver Community Centre boasts an aquatic centre with two pools, an ice rink, gymnasium, fitness centre with a range of fitness classes for all abilities, and a full complement of child, youth, and adult education classes. The Seniors’ Activity Centre next door is a welcoming place to spend time with friends — and a great place to meet new ones. Lawn bowlers enjoy the welcoming atmosphere at the West Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club.

Ambleside is also home to the West Vancouver Memorial Library. A spectacular facility, with a unique modern design, it’s a delightful place to spend time.
