Just for Laughs Vancouver
We could all use a good giggle, so why not laugh your way through a set of stand-up, improv or sketch comedy at this year’s Just for Laughs festival? To Be Seen, To Be Heard: First Nations in Public Spaces, 1900-1965
This immersive, multimedia exhibition explores how BC Indigenous peoples found creative and diverse ways to make themselves visible in urban public spaces between 1900-1965 at parades, protests, royal visits and more. Catch this important show until March 31 in the Audain Gallery of UBC’s Museum of Anthropology.
The Junos are coming!
Canada’s biggest night in music comes to Rogers Arena on March 30. The 54th annual Juno Awards will be hosted by Michael Bublé and feature many of the country’s best bands and performers. Tickets and information available here.
Calling all oenophiles
The Vancouver International Wine festival takes place at restaurants and venues around the city February 22-March 2. The event features tastings from 121 wineries from 15 countries. If you want to learn more about wine or taste unique blends from around the world get your tickets here.
Monster-sized motorsport spectacular
Enjoy king-sized skills, stunts and saves as world-class drivers in 1,500-horsepower, 12,000-lb monster trucks tear up the dirt at the Pacific Coliseum’s Monster Jam March 21-23. As an audience member, you’ll be part of the action and have a chance to score drivers in the skills challenge, donut and freestyle competitions.
Squamish Gondola
Plan a day trip up Highway 99 to Squamish and take a ride up the Sea to Sky Gondola. Take in sweeping views of Howe Sound, brave a walk across the 100-metre Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge or try the tube park for some laughs. Winter hours are 9 am to 5 pm.
The Lost Souls of Gastown
Take a walking tour through the cobblestone streets of Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood. Forbidden Vancouver’s performance-theatre experience will bring you inside a world of Victorian-era murder, revenge and intrigue. Tours run winter evenings beginning at 7 pm.
Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival
Your outdoor adventure starts in the comfort of a cinema seat! From skiing to biking to climbing, The Vancouver International Film Festival brings some of the world’s best mountain films to city theatres February 21-March 4.
Nordic skiing
Skate or classic ski just 30 minutes from downtown at the Nordic area on Hollyburn Ridge. The Cypress Mountain facility offers 19 kilometres of trails, night skiing and great food at the historic Hollyburn Lodge. Rentals and lessons are available.
Invictus Games
The Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women. The biennial event is being held in Vancouver and Whistler February 8 to 16. It brings together more than 500 athletes from 20 nations to compete in adaptive sports including alpine skiing and snowboarding, wheelchair rugby, indoor rowing and more. Tickets are available here. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of Invictus patron Prince Harry.
Rugby Sevens
Part sporting event, part fancy-dress party, the 10th HSBC SVNS rugby sevens tournament is a whole lot of fun. Catch Canada’s Paris 2024 Olympic silver medal-winning women’s team and the Canadian men’s team in action against their international rivals at BC Place February 21-23. Tickets available here.
