Kerrisdale is filled with lovely shops, welcoming neighbours and an elegant atmosphere. In fact, Kerrisdale feels very much like a small town within the city of Vancouver. Residential streets separate the neighbourhood from Kitsilano to the north, Dunbar to the west, Oakridge to the east and Marpole to the south. An affluent and well-established community, Kerrisdale is what locals think of as one of Vancouver’s quintessential West Side neighbourhoods.
West 41st Avenue is Kerrisdale’s main boulevard and high street. Every manner of business can be found here, from longstanding independent fashion boutiques like Hill’s of Kerrisdale (from which sprung world-famous Aritzia) to thrift stores, from high-end florists to corner grocers. Food plays a major role in Kerrisdale with many coffee shops, tea rooms, sushi and ramen bars, and a range of west coast and international restaurants. Like any small town, service in Kerrisdale is paramount—you can expect shopkeepers to get to know you by name.
Tree-lined streets span outwards from West 41st Avenue and are filled with large historical homes, charming bungalows, low-rise walk-up apartment buildings and a few residential towers. The Vancouver campus of the University of British Columbia (UBC) is situated 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver in a truly spectacular location at the city’s westernmost edge.
