This is the fourth in a series of articles about Austeville neighbourhoods
Austeville Properties offers quality residential rental suites in many of Vancouver’s best communities. Here we explore the UBC neighbourhood, home to Chancellor Court.
Far more than just a community of university students and professors, Vancouver’s UBC neighbourhood has evolved into a thriving and growing mini-city unto itself, replete with virtually every service, amenity and convenience anyone could want.
And talk about green space! The UBC Endowment Lands, including the incomparable Pacific Spirit Regional Park with its 73+ km of hiking, biking and even horseback riding trails is just the beginning of what Chancellor Court offers its resident health and nature enthusiasts.
Chancellor Court is made up of two, 13-storey secure and quiet residential towers that offer spacious and bright one-, two- and three-bedroom rental suites. Each apartment has a balcony, many with fabulous views, and every resident has access to the numerous Chancellor Court amenities, including a brand-new fitness centre and an indoor pool and sauna.
Bordered by the Endowment Lands to the east and the University to the west, Chancellor Court is an easy walking or cycling distance to everything this full-service neighbourhood has to offer.
Skip the commute and live where you work
Whether you’re a staff or faculty member at UBC or working at UBC Hospital, living at Chancellor Court means a truly enjoyable commute to the office by foot or by bike.
You don’t need a vehicle to get around when you live at Chancellor Court thanks to the numerous busses that frequently travel to and from campus and Chancellor’s on-site Car2Go station. But if you are reluctant to part with your wheels, there is secure, gated parking for residents.
Culture at your doorstep
UBC boasts some of Vancouver’s most exciting cultural venues and attractions. The architecturally stunning Museum of Anthropology, the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, celebrated for its stellar acoustics, and the Audain Art Centre are just the tip of UBC’s Arts & Culture District. Through these and many more venues and festivals, neighbourhood residents are just steps away from high- calibre film, music, fine art and cultural events.
A green thumb’s nirvana
Apartment residents often lament their lack of garden, but those who live in the UBC neighbourhood have loads of opportunities to enjoy beautiful plant displays, learn horticulture and even practice their craft on a plot of their own.
The UBC Botanical Garden showcases seven distinct garden styles—from the meticulously designed Nitobe Memorial Garden, widely considered one of the most authentic Japanese gardens outside Japan, to the BC Rainforest Garden that showcases the province’s native vegetation. Green thumbs are invited to enjoy these gardens, or take an active part in them through workshops and volunteer opportunities.
The UBC Farm offers workshops that provide insight into the latest theories and practices in sustainable agriculture. Residents who want to practice their skills—and reap the bounty—can apply for their own patch of garden through the University Neighbourhoods Association community garden program.
Besides the above-noted Endowment Lands, fitness phenoms (or wannabees) at Chancellor have unlimited activities for all kinds of activities in their neighbourhood.
There are great routes for cyclists—trails or road, take your pick—right outside the door. What’s more, Austeville residents have access to safe and secure bike parking right in their building.
If burning calories on the water is your thing, the Jericho Sailing Centre is just down the road. It offers kayak, dinghy sailing, stand-up paddling and windsurfing lessons.
Food and shops
From cheap and cheerful campus eateries to local comfort food and even Zagat-rated Mediterranean dining, anyone looking for a meal out will be more than satisfied by the diverse options in the UBC neighbourhood.
Those looking to enjoy their Chancellor Court kitchen have abundant opportunities to pick up groceries at local markets, or at the UBC Farm’s weekly summer farmer’s market.
